Born James Michael Johnson is an American attorney and politician who is the 56th and current speaker of the United States House of Representatives since October 25, 2023. A member of the Republican Party, Johnson was first elected to the United States House of Representatives in 2016. He served as Chair of the Republican Study Committee from 2019 to 2021, and as Vice Chair of the House Republican Conference from 2021 to 2023.
